Medical Imaging

Medical Imaging involves working in various imaging departments, performing tests and procedures to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Medical Imaging professionals typically require a diploma or certificate from an accredited medical technology program and a current certification. They must also have experience in imaging settings and be certified in BLS if required by the facility.

General Requirements

To become a medical imaging technician, you typically need:

  • A postsecondary certificate or associate's degree in radiologic technology
  • Completion of a training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
  • Passing the Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) or Registered Radiologic Technologist (RRT) exam
  • State-specific certifications or licenses may be required

Medical Imaging Task & Duties

Medical imaging technicians perform the following duties:

  • Prepare patients for imaging procedures such as X-rays and CT scans
  • Operate imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and CT scanners
  • Assist radiologists and other medical professionals in diagnosing and treating medical conditions
  • Monitor patients' vital signs during procedures
  • Restock supplies and equipment as needed
