Sleep Tech

Sleep Technologists, also known as Polysomnography Technologists, are responsible for conducting sleep studies to diagnose and treat sleep disorders. They work closely with sleep specialists and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Sleep Technologists must have a strong understanding of sleep disorders and the equipment used to diagnose them. The job requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and a strong attention to detail. Sleep Technologists must also be able to work effectively in a team environment and be able to manage their time efficiently. They typically work in sleep centers, hospitals, or private practices. The job requires a minimum of an associate's degree in sleep technology and a certification in sleep technology.

General Requirements

Sleep technologists typically have an associate's or bachelor's degree in polysomnography or a related field, and they must be certified by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).

  • Strong background in sleep medicine and polysomnography
  • Excellent attention to detail and patient care skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Sleep Tech Task & Duties

Sleep technologists perform a variety of duties, including:

  • Performing sleep studies and monitoring patients during sleep
  • Scoring and interpreting sleep study data
  • Providing education and support to patients with sleep disorders
