Surgical Technologist

Surgical Technologists work in operating rooms, assisting surgeons and other medical professionals in performing surgical procedures. Their primary responsibilities include preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and assisting with surgical procedures. Surgical Technologists typically require a diploma or certificate from an accredited surgical technology program and a current certification. They must also have experience in operating room settings and be certified in BLS if required by the facility.

General Requirements

To become a surgical technologist, you typically need:

  • A postsecondary certificate or associate's degree in surgical technology
  • Completion of a training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
  • Passing the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist in Surgical Technology (TS) exam
  • State-specific certifications or licenses may be required

Surgical Technologist Task & Duties

Surgical technologists perform the following duties:
